What is Zopisign 10 mg?

  • Zopisign 10 is a prescription sleeping tablet for adults.

  • Each tablet contains 10 mg of the active ingredient zopiclone.

  • Zopiclone is a non-benzodiazepine sedative-hypnotic, often called a Z-drug.

  • It belongs to the cyclopyrrolone chemical family.

  • It is made by HAB Pharmaceuticals & Research Ltd. in India.

  • It is used for the short-term treatment of insomnia.

  • Insomnia means trouble falling asleep or staying asleep.

  • It also reduces the number of night-time awakenings.

  • It treats the symptom of poor sleep, not its underlying cause.

  • It is not a cure for insomnia and not a long-term solution.

  • It is not an anti-anxiety medicine, despite some retail listings.

  • The recommended adult dose is 7.5 mg, not 10 mg.

  • Zopiclone is not approved by the US Food and Drug Administration.

  • The related drug eszopiclone is the version approved in the US.

  • Zopiclone is a controlled drug in the UK and many other countries.

  • Use it only when a doctor has specifically prescribed it.

How Zopisign 10 mg Works (Mechanism of Action)

The action happens in five simple steps:

  • GABA is the main calming chemical messenger in the brain.

  • GABA acts on receptors called GABA-A receptors on nerve cells.

  • Zopiclone binds to a site on those same receptors.

  • This lets more chloride flow into the nerve cell.

  • The nerve cell becomes harder to activate, so brain activity slows.

What that means for sleep:

  • Slowed brain activity makes it easier to fall asleep.

  • It also makes night-time waking less likely.

  • The effect is sedation, not a natural restoration of sleep.

  • Zopiclone does not relax muscles by reducing blood flow.

  • That mechanism, seen on some websites, is incorrect.

Key pharmacology facts:

  • Zopiclone is absorbed quickly after swallowing.

  • Peak blood levels occur about 1.5 to 2 hours after a dose.

  • Food does not meaningfully change how much is absorbed.

  • The elimination half-life is roughly 5 hours in adults.

  • That half-life is longer in older adults.

  • The liver enzyme CYP3A4 plays a major role in breaking it down.

  • Sedative effects can therefore last into the next morning.

Why a higher dose is not simply better:

  • The recommended adult dose of 7.5 mg is the studied dose.

  • Higher doses increase sedation and next-day impairment.

  • They do not produce proportionally better sleep quality.

  • Dependence risk rises directly with the dose used.

How to read this table:

  • Every dose shown comes from licensed zopiclone product information.

  • 7.5 mg is the recommended adult dose in the UK, Ireland and Australia.

  • Several patient groups are limited to 3.75 mg.

  • That is less than half the amount in one Zopisign 10 mg tablet.

  • A patient in any of those groups should not take this strength.

  • Never raise your own dose because sleep has not improved.

  • Tolerance and dependence, not a weak dose, are often the cause.

Duration rules that matter most:

  • Take the lowest effective dose for the shortest possible time.

  • A single course should not exceed four weeks including tapering.

  • Some regulators advise only seven to fourteen days.

  • Agree a plan for stopping before you start treatment.

  • Do not stop suddenly after regular use; taper under medical advice.

  • If sleep is still poor after a few weeks, ask about other options.

Missed dose and overdose rules:

  • Take the tablet only at bedtime, never during the day.

  • If you forget it and the night has passed, skip that dose.

  • Never take a second tablet later the same night.

  • Never take two tablets to make up for a missed one.

  • Overdose causes deep drowsiness, confusion and slowed breathing.

  • Overdose risk is far higher when combined with alcohol or opioids.

  • Call emergency services immediately after a suspected overdose.

How to Take Zopisign 10 mg

  • Take the dose exactly as your doctor has prescribed it.

  • Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.

  • Do not suck, chew, crush or break the tablet.

  • Take it immediately before getting into bed.

  • Only take it when you can sleep seven to eight uninterrupted hours.

  • Take one dose per night and never repeat it that night.

  • Do not take it with or after alcohol.

  • Do not take it alongside other sleeping tablets or sedatives.

  • Do not drive or operate machinery after taking it.

  • Wait until you are fully alert the next day before driving.

  • Keep the course as short as your doctor advises.

  • Return for review before any course is extended.

Practical usage tips:

  • Food does not need to be avoided before the dose.

  • Getting out of bed too soon after a dose raises fall risk.

  • Older adults are at particular risk of night-time falls.

  • A bitter or metallic taste the next morning is common.

  • Sleep hygiene measures work alongside, not instead of, review.

  • Talking therapy for insomnia is the recommended long-term approach.

  • Tell your doctor if you feel low, anxious or unusually distressed.

Drug Interactions – Avoid or Use With Caution

Never combine Zopisign 10 with these:

  • Alcohol in any quantity, including the evening before.

  • Opioid painkillers such as morphine, oxycodone, codeine and tramadol.

  • Opioid substitution treatments such as methadone and buprenorphine.

  • Other sleeping tablets, including zolpidem and zaleplon.

  • Benzodiazepines such as diazepam, lorazepam and temazepam.

  • Any other zopiclone or eszopiclone product.

Use only with medical supervision:

  • Sedating antihistamines such as promethazine and chlorphenamine.

  • Antipsychotic medicines, also called neuroleptics.

  • Antidepressants, particularly sedating ones.

  • Anti-anxiety medicines and muscle relaxants.

  • Anticonvulsant medicines used for epilepsy.

  • General anaesthetics before any planned procedure.

  • CYP3A4 inhibitors: ketoconazole, itraconazole, clarithromycin, ritonavir.

  • CYP3A4 inducers: rifampicin, carbamazepine, phenytoin, phenobarbital.

  • St John’s wort, which can reduce the medicine’s effect.

  • Grapefruit juice, which can raise zopiclone blood levels.

Interaction outcomes to understand:

  • Opioids plus zopiclone can cause severe respiratory depression.

  • That combination can lead to coma and death.

  • Alcohol deepens sedation and raises the risk of choking or falls.

  • Alcohol also raises the chance of complex sleep behaviours.

  • CYP3A4 inhibitors raise zopiclone levels and next-day impairment.

  • CYP3A4 inducers lower zopiclone levels and reduce its effect.

  • Stacking sedatives is a common route to accidental overdose.

Emergency Warning Signs – Seek Urgent Medical Help

Call emergency services or go to hospital immediately if you have:

  • Slow, shallow or laboured breathing.

  • Blue-tinged lips, face or fingertips.

  • Extreme drowsiness that you cannot be roused from.

  • Loss of consciousness or unresponsiveness.

  • Severe confusion or disorientation.

  • Swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat.

  • Widespread rash, hives or difficulty breathing or swallowing.

  • A seizure or convulsion.

Stop the medicine and contact a doctor the same day if you have:

  • Any episode of sleepwalking, sleep-driving or sleep-eating.

  • Any activity carried out while not fully awake.

  • No memory of a period after taking the tablet.

  • Hallucinations or seeing things that are not there.

  • Out-of-character aggression or agitation.

  • New or worsening low mood or hopelessness.

  • Any thoughts of harming yourself.

Critical instructions in an emergency:

  • Tell every treating doctor you have taken zopiclone.

  • State the strength, the amount and the time of the dose.

  • State whether any alcohol, opioid or sedative was also taken.

  • Bring the pack with you if that is possible.

  • Never leave someone with slowed breathing to sleep it off.

If you are struggling emotionally, please speak to someone.

  • Persistent insomnia is often linked to low mood or anxiety.

  • A doctor can help with both the sleep and the underlying cause.

  • Local crisis helplines are available if you feel unsafe.

Why Choose This Medicine?

What zopiclone offers when it is clinically appropriate:

  • It shortens the time taken to fall asleep.

  • It reduces how often a person wakes during the night.

  • It works quickly, usually within about an hour.

  • Its half-life is shorter than many older sleeping tablets.

  • It can help break a short cycle of acute, situational insomnia.

  • It is well characterised in regulatory documents worldwide.

  • HAB Pharmaceuticals manufactures in GMP-certified Indian facilities.

  • Generic pricing keeps a short prescribed course affordable.

Honest balance for the buyer:

  • The 10 mg strength is above the recommended adult dose.

  • Higher doses add side effects without proven extra benefit.

  • Zopiclone causes tolerance, so it works less well over time.

  • It causes physical and psychological dependence.

  • Stopping suddenly after regular use causes withdrawal symptoms.

  • Rebound insomnia can make sleep temporarily worse on stopping.

  • It is licensed for weeks of use, not months or years.

  • Talking therapy for insomnia is the recommended long-term treatment.

  • That approach has lasting benefit without dependence risk.

  • Insomnia often signals stress, pain, depression or sleep apnoea.

  • Treating the cause matters more than sedating the symptom.

  • This is a controlled drug requiring a valid prescription.

Storage Instructions

  • Store at room temperature in a cool, dry place.

  • Keep well out of sight and reach of children.

  • A single tablet can seriously harm a child.

  • Keep away from pets at all times.

  • Never share this medicine with another person.

  • Sharing a controlled drug is a criminal offence in many countries.

  • Check the expiry date printed on the blister and carton.

  • Do not use tablets that are chipped, discoloured or damp.
